Chicago. Sure, I left there when I was eight, but I still feel a connection to that place. As such, I have a warm place in my heart for things that remind me of the windy city. Like Hot Dogs and Italian Beef.
Portillos is a Chicago restaurant chain that has taken root right here in Orange County. You’ll find it on La Palma Ave in Buena Park, just a couple of blocks away from Knott’s Berry Farm.
A great hot dog has to have natural casing which gives it that “snap” when you bite into it. What defines the Chicago dog is the addition of the pickle spear, pickled peppers, tomato slice and onions. All your basic food groups. Actually, don’t forget to add the crinkle cut fry food group.
Italian Beef is roast beef sliced feather thin in an Italian roll dipped in jus and topped with sweet peppers.
