A Meeting of Burgers and Hipsters – Umami Burger in Costa Mesa
Posted on 07 November 2012 by Danny
I’ve heard alot about Umami Burger. There are 13 locations in Southern California and I finally went to the one located in “The Camp” in Costa Mesa. A meeting of burgers and hipsters.
Along with the burgers, we had to try some sides and dip them in the great variety of sauces they offer.
Umami Ketchup, Dijon Mustard, House Spread, Roasted Garlic Aioli, House Relish, Jalapeño Ranch, Diablo Sauce.
I love these smushed double fried potatoes. Fried, smushed, and fried again for crispiness. A play on Cuban Tostones but with potatoes instead of plantains.
Sweet Potato fries. Always a good thing.
Now to the burgers. Having never been here, I’ve got to try the burger that’s their namesake. The Umami Burger: topped with shitake mushrooms, caramelized onions, roasted tomato, parmesan crisp, umami ketchup.
Next up, the Hatch Burger: topped with roasted green chilies, house-made American cheese.
